Who am I?

I am a counselling psychologist and a chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland based in Dublin. I completed undergraduate and doctoral level trainings in psychology from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland. I see clients privately in the Institute of Emotion Focused Therapy and work in Spirasi, The National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture.

I have experience working across varied mental health and social support services. I have worked with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, problems in relationships, life-stage transitions, trauma-related difficulties, and suicidality. In addition, I am practiced in assessing and providing supports for people living with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

How do I work?

A common theme in my work is seeking to understand the difficulties and strengths my clients bring and building a shared-plan on how we address the problems they face. Sometimes this involves collaborating on building a toolbox to cope with the present moment: to improve self-worth, to manage emotions, and to improve relationships. At other times, this may involve delving into difficult emotional experiences from the past or present, to understand how they have shaped a person, and to process them in safe environment.

I work from a humanistic perspective which my foundational training was grounded in. To build a toolbox with clients, I also draw from Transdiagnostic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Emotional Disorders and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. To process the past, I draw from Emotion-Focused Therapy or Narrative Exposure Therapy.

What are my credentials?

I am chartered psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland. I have undertaken four years of undergraduate training in psychology and three years of doctoral training in counselling psychology. Both of my degrees come from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland.

My doctorate was grounded in the humanistic approach which emphasises therapy as the real meeting of two people and the importance of building a strong therapeuctic alliance with clients. During this time, I also completed doctoral level trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. I have also undertaken trainings in Narrative Exposure Therapy from In Vivo International, in Emotion-Focused Therapy from the International Society of Emotion Focused Therapy, in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina, and in Transdiagnostic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the Unified Protocol Institute.
